Is Iceland worth visiting? What are the top things to do in Iceland? If you’ve been curious about the Land of Fire and Ice … you’re in the right place!
Megan Manno, the owner of Moods Travel Advisory is the Head Associate Advisor here at VIVE Travel.
She recently returned from a Site Inspection Trip and is sharing all the details with us in this special interview.

What was your favorite hotel in Iceland?
“My favorite hotel in Reykjavik was the Five Star, Edition Hotel. It is brand new, trendy, and located within walking distance to everything in the city. My favorite part of the hotel is the fabulous fireplace and lounge area in the lobby. It’s the perfect place to have a cocktail or a coffee after a long day of exploring.”

How was the food?
“There is something for everyone in Iceland. It is such a foodie town and the restaurants reflect the passion and individual styles of each chef. There’s a ton of fresh seafood which was the highlight for me. Also make sure you try the famous Icelandic hot dog. Expert tip, Iceland has some of the purest drinking water in the entire world and they drink it straight from the tap!”

What’s something people should know before visiting Iceland?
“In Iceland, 90% of the population live within the greater Reykjavik area with the rest of the population scattered among fishing villages on the coastline. That being said, a lot of the nature attractions are far apart and it is important to consider the logistics and travel time when we are planning your trip.”

What surprised you the most ?
“What surprised me the most was how safe and clean the city was. It was very easy to navigate and communicate and I felt very comfortable exploring at leisure. It’s a wonderful city to “get lost in”. What also surprised me was how dramatic the landscapes were outside the city. Pictures really do not do Iceland justice and it feels like another planet when you are exploring.”

What was your favorite excursion?
“My favorite experience was horseback riding through the countryside. It felt incredibly unique and surreal to be in that environment on a horse. In Iceland it is illegal to import horses and if a horse is ever exported it can never return to Iceland. This is the main reason the horses in Iceland are so beautiful, calm, and unique.”
